INTERESTING CONVERSIONS
You may have heard about the following new units of measure and conversions:
Ratio of an igloo's circumference to its diameter: Eskimo Pi
2.4 statute miles of intravenous surgical tubing at Yale University hospital: 1 I.V. League
Speed of a tortoise breaking the sound barrier: Mach Turtle
Time it takes to sail 220 yards at 1 nautical mile per hour: Knot-furlong
Basic unit of laryngitis: 1 hoarsepower
Time between slipping on a peel and smacking the pavement: bananosecond
1 million microphones = 1 megaphone
2000 mockingbirds = 2 kilomockingbirds
10 cards = 1 decacards
1 millionth of a fish = 1 microfiche
453.6 graham crackers = 1 pound cake
3-1/3 tridents = 1 decadent
8 nickels = 2 paradigms
1 millionth of a mouthwash = 1 microscope
Half of a large intestine = 1 semicolon
1000 aches = 1 megahurtz
2 wharves = 1 paradox
2000 pounds of Chinese soup = Won ton
Some interesting conversions! But nothing that compares with the conversion you read about in Acts 9. A man who dedicated his life to eradicating Christians and Christianity went toward Damascus with murder in his heart and came out of the city three days later with Christ at the center of his life. What a change!
Upon hearing of his conversion, all who heard about it were amazed (see Acts 9:21). But perhaps no one was ever more amazed than Paul himself:
"And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me, because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry, although I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent man; but I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. And the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant, with faith and love which are in Christ Jesus." (I Timothy 1:12-14)
Paul repeatedly used his own conversion to make the point that if God could change him, He can change anyone. And it's true! Hard to believe at times, but true, that God has the ability to make something useful out of me, despite the failings of my past.
You may never quite get the hang of some conversions (how many centimeters are there in an inch anyway?), but may you personally know about the only conversion that truly matters -- the conversion of your life to Christ!
Have a great day!
