THE POWER OF TOUCH

I worked as a medical/surgical nurse at a busy hospital and was young in years and experience when this happened. I had a patient to care for on my night shift along with eight others. This particular patient did not talk, move or even give me eye response when I was speaking to her. She was alone; no family. She was a DNR (do not resuscitate), no heroic measures for her, just let her be. She was on the telemonitor, which watches what the heart is doing, rate, rhythm, etc. After I did my initial assessment (like a physical exam), I repositioned her, placed pillows at the areas known to have skin breakdown (any bony prominence) and tried to make her more comfortable. Then I went to speak to the nurse watching the telemonitor for the shift so I could find out her rhythm, etc. to put in my nurse's notes. I was shocked when she pointed to the screen that displayed my patient, "This is what a dying heart looks like." I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

STONE SOUP

Many years ago, three soldiers, hungry and weary of battle, came upon a small village. The villagers, suffering a meager harvest and the many years of war, quickly hid what little they had to eat and met the three at the village square, wringing their hands and bemoaning the lack of anything to eat. The soldiers spoke quietly among themselves and the first soldier then turned to the village elders. "Your tired fields have left you nothing to share, so we will share what little we have: the secret of how to make soup from stones." Naturally the villagers were intrigued and soon a fire was put to the town's greatest kettle as the soldiers dropped in three smooth stones. "Now this will be a fine soup," said the second soldier, "but a pinch of salt and some parsley would make it wonderful!" Up jumped a villager, crying "What luck! I've just remembered where some has been left!" And off she ran, returning with an apron full of

TIME TO FIGHT

It is time to fight. It is time to be on the offensive daily. No more   sitting back and waiting to be hit. Get on your horse and charge. Be at   the ready all day – not just first thing in the morning. Be on the lookout   all day. Don’t tolerate the frustrations – tell them to flee. Don’t live   in the pig sty and hope you will be happy because you have Me. Get out of   the pig sty.   Yes, there are still trials in life but you don’t have to endure every one   that you do, some you could have told to go away. Tell the mountain to   move.   Daughter of the King, use the authority I have given you. Mountains would   step aside for you if you’d only walk in the authority you have. Warrior   Bride quit admiring your sword and use it. You have spent years polishing   it – it is ready! What good is it go know the Word if you never use it?   Get it in you and then let it flow from you. Let Me see and the world see   that you have

HEBRAIC THOUGHT

"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow His   precepts have good understanding" (Psalms 111:10).   Education is a high priority in any society that wants to advance.   Education should be sought after by every believer in Jesus Christ in   order to better understand God's ways. However, education that is not   mixed with faith and obedience will result in programmatic religion.   In the early Hebraic church, wisdom was gained by obedience. Hebrews   learned that wisdom was gained by knowing and doing the will of God and   that it often did not line up with logic. However, as the church became   impacted by the Greek culture through the influence of scholars like   Socrates and Aristotle, knowledge-based systems became more influential in   the way education was taught and applied. Greeks believed that the way to   gain knowledge was based on reason and analysis.   When Joshua walked around the city of

WORD OF WISDOM

57 CENTS                          A little girl stood near a small church from which she had been turned   away because it was 'too crowded.'   I can't go to Sunday School,' she sobbed to the Pastor as he walked by.   Seeing her shabby, unkempt appearance, the Pastor guessed the reason   and, taking her by the hand, took her inside and found a place for her   in the Sunday school class. The child was so happy that they found   room for her, and she went to bed that night thinking of the children   who have no place to worship Jesus.   Some two years later, this child lay dead in one of the poor tenement   buildings. Her parents called for the kindhearted Pastor who had   befriended their daughter to handle the final arrangements.   As her poor little body was being moved, a worn and crumpled red purse   was found which seemed to have been rummaged from some trash dump.   Inside was found 57 cents and a note, scribbled in childish   handwriting, wh

FATHER'S LOVE LETTER

My Child,                   You may not know me,             but I know everything about you.                      Psalm 139:1       I know when you sit down and when you rise up.                      Psalm 139:2              I am familiar with all your ways.                      Psalm 139:3       Even the very hairs on your head are numbered.                   Matthew 10:29-31               For you were made in my image.                      Genesis 1:27        In me you live and move and have your being.                        Acts 17:28                 For you are my offspring.                        Acts 17:28         I knew you even before you were conceived.                      Jeremiah 1:4-5            I chose you when I planned creation.                    Ephesians 1:11-12                You were not a mistake,          for all your days are written in my book.                    Psalm 139:15-16          I determined the exact time

How to Survive a Spear Attack   Saul cast the javelin; for he said, I will smite David even to the wall   with it. And David eluded him twice. 1 Samuel 18:11   What do you do when you are the target of a spear thrower (spears of   verbal abuse perhaps?).  Here are a few lessons from David when he was the   target of Saul’s spear of jealousy.   First, don’t retaliate. Most people would pick the spear up and throw it   back at the one who threw it. NOT DAVID!  David let the spear lay.  Don’t   become spear focused or become a spear-thrower yourself.  If you throw   spears back at your attacker, you prove you are no better than the one who   attacked you.   Second, what did David do when Saul wanted to use him as target practice   and hurled a spear in his direction?  Simple: He ducked! He learned how to   dodge spears. He learned to stay out of the way of spear-throwers. If   someone is known to be a spear-chucker, keep away from them.   Third, David put a wa
